Origins of the Rosary

The origins of the rosary are a little elusive but we can piece together a reasonable history. The

use of "prayer beads" began in the very early days of the Church. They were used to aid in

reciting certain prayers during meditation and there is some indication that of beads were used

to count Our Fathers and Hail Marys.

What we now hold in our hands and call the rosary took form in the 12th and 15th centuries.

Eventually 50 Hail Marys were recited and linked with verses of psalms or other phrases

evoking the lives of Jesus and Mary. Finally during the 16th century, the structure of the five-

decade rosary based on the three sets of mysteries (Joyful, Glorious and Sorrowful) prevailed

and remained that way until Pope John Paull II added the Luminous Mysteries.

The Power of the Rosary

The well-known “televangelist” Archbishop Fulton Sheen once said, "The rosary is the book of

the blind, where souls see and there enact the greatest drama of love the world has ever

known; it is the book of the simple, which initiates them into mysteries and knowledge more

satisfying than the education of other men; it is the book of the aged, whose eyes close upon

the shadow of this world, and open on the substance of the next. The power of the rosary is

beyond description."

The Prayer of the Family

Through the ages the rosary has become a fundamental prayer of the Catholic faith. In 1947

Father Patrick Peyton coined the phrase “The family that prays together, stays together.” He

was an enthusiastic promoter of family rosary time. Known as the "Rosary priest" Fr. Peyton

encouraged nearly 5 million listeners to his radio program to strengthen their family life by

praying the Rosary together. Biblezon has the perfect app for praying the rosary either with

your family or even alone when out of town on a business trip.

How to Pray the Rosary

The app comes with a one-page graphic that visually explains how to pray the rosary. It serves

as a simple yet handy guide for praying the rosary.

A Daily Rosary Companion

Upon opening the Rosary app it automatically takes you to the current day’s mystery of the

Rosary (whether connected via WiFi or not). Each of the day’s mysteries has a brief intention

for meditation on followed by the Our Father, Hail Mary and Glory Be prayers. If you like to

prayer with accompanying audio this option is available as well in-app.

The Promises of the Rosary

The Blessed Virgin Mary promised to Saint Dominic and to all who follow that "Whatever you

ask in the Rosary will be granted." She left for all Christians Fifteen Promises to those who

recite the Holy Rosary. It is helpful for us to read and meditate on those promises occasionally

so that we can fortify and enrich our love of Mary’s Rosary. Those Fifteen Promises are including

in-app for you to review at your convenience
